Last night, textile artist and natural dye expert, Audrey Louise Reynolds, and I hosted a dinner and workshop at The Brooklyn Kitchen in celebration of my book. Audrey coaxes vibrant pigments and hues out of natural materials like borage, hibiscus, rose and seaweed. Her dyes are most typically used for fabric, and she has her own fashion line and works with names as big as Ulla Johnson. But when Audrey told me in passing that her dyes were food grade, and maybe even good for you, I knew we had to collaborate on an event. Working with my brilliant friend and event producer Rachael Petach, we created an installation of white veggies, and invited guests to dip, splatter, paint and drizzle potent natural dyes all over the place. A full dinner from the book was served, including ice cream with rose colored magic shell.
